stories which sent me my friend Nguyen Thuy from Hanoi. This stories are some Vietnamese traditional stories about weather etc. I hope you enjoy this stories and thanks again to Thuy. |
Ngau rain |
| Once upon a time, when the world link the sun. In the festival annual, people in the world could see the people in the Heaven, they were very friendly and had good each other. A girl was in the Heaven, met a man of the world , and they loved each other on the first sight. But the rule at that time not permit people were in the world marry people were in the sun. When the festival was over, the loving couple were farewell, the girl cried very much. She asked about the rule, why did not permit they marry. The Sun ( mystic Sun) would be touched by seeing that view. He permitted that girl can see her boy friend in lunar July of each year. In lunar July that girl can see her lover, but they never get married. They just see together, then say good bye. Each time seeing, the loving couple cried a lot , it made the rain in July. Vietnamese called 'Ngau rain' , ( ngau were names of that double). In July, in the north of my country, it is always continuos rain in odd days ( 1, 3 ,5 ,7- 11, 13, 15 17- and 21, 23, 25 , some time continue some days after 7 or 17 , it is rain almost of July ) . Ngau rain is different the rain in Son tinh and Thuy tinh. Rain in Son tinh and Thuy tinh is flood and storm, but all are in July too. |
Mrs. Ban knit the coat |
| Long time before, when the people
can remember exactly… There was a lady, she was virtue
and beauty, and she love her husband so much, she want to
do all by her hands to take good care her husband.
Although she is clumsy woman, can't do well every thing,
but she want to prove the mark of her love to her
husband, she decided to knit a coat of wool. She figure
herself out, and started knit coat of wool for her
husband from beginning of Summer ( exactly it is the end
of Spring and the beginning of Summer). She forget herself in work, but was very clumsy, make and take a part, couldn't make well, Summer was over… and autumn was over. Her husband was looking forward a coat, he understand deeply his wife was try her best , and means his wife love him very much. Winter start and to end, she didn't accomplish. A new year start by Spring, the people enjoy Spring festival, Vietnamese have enjoy Spring festival for the new year ( Spring start in January lunar ) Nobody remember that Mrs Ban was continuing knit the coat for her husband. Past three months, in April is started of Summer, Vietnam Summer have some hot days in end of March. At that time Mrs Ban accomplished coat of wool for her husband, she was despairing because her husband couldn't wear the coat that was made by his wife. Although her husband cheered up he would take in next Winter, but Ban was sad. The Season mystic was in sympathy with her to make little cold again in some days of March. Ban was happy seeing her husband trying the coat of wool and thanks for some days are little cold again. Annual, in Vietname weather have some cold days in March insert into warm weather. It is called Mrs Ban cold or March cold, Vietnamese call Mrs Ban knit her husband's coat, allude to clumsy ladies. When Vietnamese tell Mrs Ban knit the coat, means that a work never accomplish, tell and put in over there. |
